IT: Welcome to Derry wrapped up last December with unprecedented success, drawing 6.5 million U.S. viewers tuning in across HBO and Max for the finale and nearly 20 million viewers tuning in for the first season.

Despite such impressive numbers, what’s disheartening is that the show hasn’t received a Season 2 renewal yet. But why so? If you think HBO isn’t ready to bank once again at Pennywise the Dancing Clown, then you are gravely mistaken.

Recently, HBO’s boss, Casey Bloys, shared what’s causing the delay at the renewal. “Let me say, not in limbo at all. Hardly. It was a huge success for us,” Bloys responded to Deadline when asked if the show is caught in the development limbo. (via Deadline)

He continued, “Andy [Muschietti] and Barbara [Muschietti] are hard at work trying to come up with an idea for a story they’d want to tell for another season. I would happily do it. One of the challenges is, there’s not a book that you’re basing it on, so it’s invention. They want to make sure that they have a story they’re excited to tell. So it’s not limbo other than they need to land on something they’re excited by creatively. We’ll be there.”

Welcome to Derry stars Bill SkarsgĂ„rd, Taylour Paige, Jovan Adepo, James Remar, Stephen Rider, Matilda Lawler, Chris Chalk, Clara Stack, Amanda Christine, and Mikkal Karim-Fidler. Andy Muschietti and Barbara Muschietti serve as executive producers, with Andy taking the director’s chair as well; the show premiered last October.
