Sombr says he is still single and navigating love in the spotlight

He revealed the not-so-great reaction from the person who inspired his hit "Homewrecker"

Sombr said he's accepted that he doesn't have any privacy

Sombr is still looking for love.

The Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter typically lets his lyrics do the talking when it comes to his personal life. But in a new interview with Nylon, the 20-year-old star offered insight into his dating world.

“I’m still a man that feels emotions. I’m still very single. And I still deal with some issues that have to do with love,” he said.

The “12 to 12” singer (real name Shane Boose) added that with his newfound celebrity status, he has “to accept that I don’t have privacy, which is not something I’ll ever complain about because this is what I wanted.”

“But I have to always act like I’m being watched,” he said. “Because I am.”

Still, if you want the tea on Sombr’s love life, you can look to his music. His most recent hit, “Homewrecker,” tells the story of reconnecting with an ex who’s since moved on, knowing full well he could be a better partner to her than her new man. The star told Nylon that it’s based on a true story.

“I was like, ‘Bro I can be so much better than this fool,’” he said, adding that the subject is “f---ing pissed” about the song.

“He’s mad,” Sombr added. “Hopefully, he doesn’t come f---ing kill me.”

It’s been a transformative year for the star, who released his debut studio album I Barely Know Her in August, and was nominated for Best New Artist at the 2026 Grammy Awards in February.

In December, he admitted it was “difficult” to make friends and date during this period of his life, saying on the In Your Dreams with Owen Thiele podcast that there was “no dating” going on.

“It’s not in the cards for me right now. It is what it is,” he said. “My big dream is to get a girlfriend. Please. Not right now, but eventually. That’s like my lifetime dream. [My dream girl] is a very talented creative. I’m very attracted to very talented people that I can look up to and has a sense of humor.”

Sombr previously opened up to PEOPLE in April 2025 about dropping out of high school in New York City to pursue a music career, as well as his biggest inspirations.

"It's definitely pieces of different relationships I've had or even nights," he said. "And then there's definitely inspiration from certain movies like The Notebook or Call Me By Your Name."
