The director and former child star caught up with PEOPLE at a benefit concert in Los Angeles
Soleil Moon Frye is adjusting to life as a boy mom now that both of her daughters are college-age.
Frye caught up with PEOPLE at CORE's 15th Anniversary Livestream Benefit Concert in Los Angeles on Tuesday, Dec. 9. During the conversation, the actress — who is mom to daughters Poet Sienna Rose, 20, and Jagger Joseph Blue, 17, as well as sons Lyric Sonny Roads, 11, and Story Indigo Moon, 9 — shared that she's still getting used to the idea that neither of her girls will be living at home soon.
“Tonight, my 11-year-old had two of his friends over, and they were doing a science experiment. I was like, ‘Oh my gosh, is this what boy mom vibes is going to be like? Hip-hop playing and baggy pants?' And I was like, ‘Oh my goodness. What is happening?’ … I'm like, ‘Girls, just remember to come home,’ ” Frye, 49, said.

The Punky Brewster alum also said that she sometimes finds it hard to believe that she already has a kid out of high school.

“My oldest daughter is at college now, which is totally insane because I feel like I'm still college-age,” she said, adding, “Literally, I'll go on and look at [her], I'm like, ‘Oh, I'm ready to go back to college!’ ”
She added that the journey of watching her kids grow up has been “beautiful.”
“It's wild. It's beautiful,” she said. “And to see what incredible beings they have been — from the time they came into this world, and as they enter the next stages of life in the world — it just brings so much joy to my heart, and so much love and admiration … to see them sow their own exquisite beings is amazing.”
The Kid90 director also shared what she most hopes to impart on her daughters as they begin to leave the nest and enter the next stage of life.

“I would say … to just know … there's that connection that is there [with me], that is always home no matter where you are. And just to always go back to that place, and close your eyes, and feel it, and know it, and feel my mama bear arms around them. And that they have their own journeys,” she said.
“And I want them to explore, and live in joy and purpose and fun. Lots of fun. Have fun. Enjoy. Drink up the world," she added.

The former child star shares her four kids with ex-husband Jason Goldberg, whom she split from in 2020 after 22 years of marriage.
