Savannah Guthrie was absent from the "Today" show on Feb. 2, the morning after her mother, Nancy Guthrie, was reported missing.

Craig Melvin and Sheinelle Jones anchored the broadcast of "Today" and reported on what Melvin described as “a deeply personal story.” Jones mentioned that Nancy was last seen the night of Jan. 31 and reported missing Sunday by family.

In a statement issued to USA TODAY, Savannah Guthrie expressed appreciation for kind words.

"On behalf of our family, I want to thank everyone for the thoughts, prayers and messages of support," Guthrie, 54, says. "Right now, our focus remains on the safe return of our dear mom. We thank law enforcement for their hard work on this case and encourage anyone with information to contact the Pima County Sheriff's Department at (520) 351-4900."

At around noon local time on Sunday, Feb. 1, the Pima County Sheriff's Office received a 911 call reporting Nancy missing from her home outside Tucson, Sheriff Chris Nanos said at a news conference.

"Ms. Guthrie is 84 years old and is not of good physical health and so naturally we have some great concerns," Nanos said. "The scene at the house also has some concerns for us as well."

Nanos added that Nancy had no cognitive issues.

Tom Winter, national law enforcement and intelligence correspondent for NBC, appeared on Monday's "Today" broadcast sharing that authorities "were able to get out helicopters (Sunday) night that use infrared cameras" for their search. "They’ve got drones up. They’ve enlisted the help of the Customs and Border Protection… The FBI’s also aware of this case as well.”

Nancy Guthrie, 84, the mother of Savannah Guthrie, was reported missing in Arizona on Feb. 1.

According to a missing persons flyer, Nancy Guthrie is 5 feet 5 inches and about 150 pounds with brown hair and blue eyes. Again, anyone with information should contact the Pima County Sheriff's Office at (520) 351-4900.
