While speaking exclusively to PEOPLE at an event for makeup brand Nude by Nature, Nicole Richie reveals an old makeup trend she still "loves"
Richie shares that she used to emulate Twiggy's iconic makeup look in her teens
"I think especially when you're young, to play with those different looks is so fun and important and you should do it," she shares
Nicole Richie says there's one particular beauty look from her past that still sticks out to her.
The 44-year-old reveals which trend from her teenage years she still stands by while chatting with PEOPLE at Australian makeup brand Nude by Nature's recent U.S. debut party in West Hollywood on Jan. 14.
“This is not going to be a popular one, but when I was probably 19, I would draw the Twiggy eyelashes with eyeliner on my under eyes because I love her and just thought that it was fun,” the reality TV star says.
“I think especially when you're young, to play with those different looks is so fun and important and you should do it. You should go there,” she adds.

Twiggy is hailed as one of the first international supermodels of the '60s and is most recognizable for her dramatically emphasized eyelashes, specifically, her clustered bottom lashes.
In 2022, she told PEOPLE that she is still very "fond" of the look, which she first started doing at age 16.
"It would take me one and a half hours to apply, including three pairs of false eyelashes," the English model, 76, said at the time.
While Richie used to love a bold look, she has gravitated toward a less-is-more approach in recent years when it comes to beauty. Richie recently joined Nude by Nature for a campaign centered on the idea that “nothing is cleaner than nude.”

The House of Harlow founder tells PEOPLE that she doesn't "wear a lot of makeup in general" because she has "very sensitive skin."
"So the more I do, the more I break out. So using a brand like Nude by Nature is just amazing and keeps my skin calm. It feels very clean. It feels fresh and it's amazing," she adds.
As for her day-to-day routine, Richie notes that she typically only wears "moisturizer and concealer" unless she has a big event.

However, her 18-year-old daughter — who now goes by her middle name, Kate — is in an experimental stage when it comes to all things beauty, she says.
"She's young, and so I'm always like telling her, I'm like, 'Go for it. Do all the things,'" Richie says. "I mean, she loves makeup. She loves eyelashes and eyeshadow eyeliners. She loves all of it."
While it's unclear if the teen has tested out her mom's past Twiggy-inspired makeup looks, Richie previously shared that they often share clothes.
In October 2025, Richie told PEOPLE that her family has an "open closet policy," spanning from her mom Brenda Harvey-Richie to her daughter.
“We have a real easy back-and-forth with each other's closets, so if I need to go and get something, I will,” Richie said.
She noted that her daughter “keeps everything in pristine condition."“She has really good jeans and she wears baggy jeans and I don't own a lot of baggy jeans, so when I do want to wear baggy jeans, I go to her and she's got good sweatshirts,” she said of Kate. “She has really good streetwear sneakers. She knows she can come and borrow anything from me and it's fine if I do the same.”
