Keke Palmer recalled on the latest edition of the Decisions, Decisions podcast a stranger proposing to her during a SXSW panel in March
The man was escorted out of the festival and later arrested for criminal trespass after refusing to leave the property
Palmer reflected on the pressures of being a public figure and the importance of discussing celebrity boundaries
Keke Palmer is getting candid about the moment she knew "something was wrong" when a stranger proposed to her at SWSW.
It was less than a month ago when a video posted by TMZ from the March 13 SXSW Festival panel "Baby, This is Keke Palmer Live," went viral, showing a man from the audience on the edge of the stage on one knee, holding an engagement ring box out to Palmer, 32.
"This is how I knew that something was wrong because the ring was nice," Palmer said on the Wednesday, April 1, episode of the Decisions, Decisions podcast. "It wasn't like no Cracker Jack ring."
"I'm serious, the ring looked expensive," she said. "It looked expensive. That's when I knew something was up."
The actress, who was at SXSW for the March 12 world premiere of her new movie, I Love Boosters, then demonstrated how she could see something was wrong from the look in the man's eyes.
"That's when I was like 'is this a joke' because it was so sincere," she said. "I could see in his eyes that we've had romance. We had a lifetime in this man's eyes."
Palmer said she thought the man believed it was finally time to propose, even though they didn't know each other.

"So then I was like, 'Okay, sir, no, I cannot marry you, I cannot marry you, sir.' And then that's when I knew when he started looking back to the people and he was like, 'She wants to say yes. Help her say yes.' And I was just like, 'Oh, no.' "

Palmer said that while she got nervous afterward, realizing it could have been a dangerous moment, she was focused on being "careful" about how she broke the news to the guy, who she said looked like a "pretty together guy."
"This is nothing to play with. And that's why I just started feeling sad because I was thinking to myself, 'man, this guy is in a really bad way, man,' " she said.Palmer said that while she understands she is a public figure, people must understand that she's "only human."
"I hope that we can all start having these conversations around what it means to be an entertainer, what it means to be a celebrity, what it means to have impact and visibility," she said.

A SXSW spokesperson told the Austin American-Statesman on March 13 that the festival revoked the man's festival credentials before he was escorted out.
As previously reported by PEOPLE, the Austin Police Department said in a statement that officers responded to reports of a disturbance at the JW Marriott in the city at 10:32 a.m. local time that day, after a caller reported that an individual on the property refused to leave.
Austin police alleged that the man, identified as Kendall Demouchet, stated that he intended to continue his attempt to propose to Palmer even after he was notified he was no longer allowed on the property.
