Emily Blunt recently recalled a physically grueling moment on the set of Edge of Tomorrow that pushed her and the steadfast Tom Cruise to their limit and led to an unforgettable exchange.

During her appearance on a recent episode of Hot Ones, Blunt shared that filming the drop ship sequence for the 2014 sci-fi film left the two extremely frustrated and in pain, as they were stuck in wires for longer than expected. However, it ultimately resulted in a moment of Cruise being his iconic self.

“We’re in those massive armored suits. And when you’re surrounded by Tom Cruise’s enthusiasm, it kind of bleeds in you and you feel like you can’t let him down by complaining about anything. It’s a very powerful force coming off him,” Blunt recounted.

Still, even with Cruise’s famously unwavering spirit, the physically and emotionally demanding shoot eventually pushed things to the limit for the actress.

“I’d kind of had it. It was very hot in there. My suit weighed 80 pounds, and I’m in a harness being lifted up, so the entire weight of my body — and 85 pounds — is on my nether regions,” she continued.

Noticing her costar’s “enthusiasm… starting to unravel a little bit” as they were “swinging” in the air, Blunt decided to express her annoyance over the situation — and she got a response she would probably never forget.

“He was getting a bit frustrated with how long things were taking to shoot, and yelling, ‘Please roll!’ I just looked at him, and I went, ‘This f****** sucks.’ And he looked at me and he went: ‘It’s a challenge,” Blunt noted.

Back in 2014, Blunt shared the same story on The Graham Norton Show, sitting right next to Cruise himself.

The Hollywood icon didn’t give up on his chance to weigh in on the matter.

“You know what? If I start complaining, it’s on. If I start going down, it’s on,” Cruise quipped before Blunt revealed what happened after he called the situation “a challenge” with his trademark determination.

“And I went, ‘Tom! It sucks,’” Blunt stated, adding that the actor ultimately agreed to whatever she had to say about the chaotic circumstances they were in. “He went, ‘Okay!’”
