Donald Trump slams 'loser' Bruce Springsteen after singer's criticism

President Donald Trump is no rock 'n' roller, but he has his own protest song for Bruce Springsteen.

The president, who's had a yearslong feud with the Grammy-winning singer, slammed the rocker after he criticized Trump during his tour opener in Minneapolis on Tuesday, March 31.

Springsteen didn't hold back on expressing his political disdain for Trump during the kickoff of the Land of Hope and Dreams American Tour, a 20-date trek that will include shows in cities heavily targeted by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

"We live in dangerous times," Springsteen, 76, told the crowd, before condemning the "corrupt, incompetent, racist [and] treasonous" Trump administration.

President Trump responded to Springsteen's criticism in a fiery post on Truth Social Thursday.

"Bad and very boring singer Bruce Springsteen, who looks like a dried-up prune who has suffered greatly from the work of a really bad plastic surgeon, has long had a horrible and incurable case of Trump Derangement Syndrome," Trump, 79, wrote.

"Trump Derangement Syndrome," a politically charged insult often used by Trump and his administration against his critics, is a term that characterizes opposition to the president as a psychological impairment. The phrase draws influence from conservative commentator Charles Krauthammer's previous term, "Bush derangement syndrome."

Springsteen "is a total loser who spews hate against a president who won a landslide election," Trump continued. "Under sleepy Joe [Biden] and the [Democrats], our country was DEAD, and now we have the 'hottest' country, by far, anywhere in the world."

The president also encouraged his followers to boycott Springsteen's "overpriced concerts, which suck," and "save [their] hard-earned money."

The White House declined to comment on Trump's post. USA TODAY has reached out to representatives for Springsteen for comment.

Trump and Springsteen's feud dates back to 2018, when the rock icon used his Springsteen on Broadway residency to protest the Trump administration's "inhumane" immigration policy of separating children from their undocumented parents.

Last May, Trump called Springsteen "overrated" in a Truth Social post after the singer compared Trump's presidency to "authoritarianism" while on his European tour with the E Street Band. The president also suggested at the time that there could be consequences when the musician returned to the U.S.

Springsteen hasn't let up on his political advocacy. On March 28, the outspoken rocker attended a No Kings rally in St. Paul, Minnesota, where he performed his protest song, "Streets of Minneapolis."
